JOHN DEAR – Biography
Art has always been some form of escape, a diversion to take me to another world, whether super heroes or hot rods, I sketched and painted some up through high school. Being self-taught, I enjoyed finding my own subjects of interest. Being from Colorado, I have a vast array of mountain landscapes in the Rocky Mountain region to choose from. But I also select settings to paint from photos that are sent to me or that I find from various sources. I am intrigued by photos or scenes that take me to places where I can get lost in the emotion and power of nature and God’s creation. It is my desire to take your breath away or cause you to find a moment to experience the joys of what can be found in a beautiful sunset, or the sun peeking through the trees and it takes you away for a moment to be refreshed.
Forty years later I picked up the brush again, and have since been consistently painting landscapes and odd subjects of interest for friends and family. It has grown to become more of a passion which the encouragement of my wife, who has given me the nudge to be more proactive selling my art, compelling me to enter local art shows and fairs where, for the first time in my life, I have enjoyed the reassurance that my art is accepted and worthy of acknowledgement by art lovers who not only give me favorable feedback but spend their hard-earned money on my art work.
What has propelled me is my excitement about expressing the emotion I find in a sunset, a lightning storm, a jaw-dropping mountain scene. I get lost in trying to translate the joy and beauty I see wherever I find it in nature. Through the enticing colors and power of the Colorado mountains, to the ever-growing opportunities of the movement and changing nature of the skies overhead; sunrises, sunsets, the dark and thrilling storms, to the quiet streams, lakes and scenes found throughout Nature. I find subject matter wherever there is a scene that stops you in your tracks and you want to remember it, share it with others and be enthralled by the beauty of God’s creation.
I am in the process of finding a means to add other payment methods. Please email me in the meantime if there is something that grabs your heart or you think someone you love would enjoy having one of these pieces of art in their home or office. There is always a holiday or opportunity to share love, and I believe art is one of the best ways you can do that.
